Research Fellow

My main research interest is in the domain of Quantitative Genetics and Genomics with special focus on modelling of genetic and genomic evaluations to better understand the genetic architecture of complex and disease traits. I obtained my PhD from the European Graduate School in Animal Breeding and Genetics (http://www.egsabg.eu/) – an Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Programme between the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Sweden and Aarhus University, Denmark. During my PhD studies, I performed extensive simulation analyses and developed methods and models for genetic evaluations of diseases data with special focus on susceptibility to and recoverability from mastitis. In similar studies, on field data collected via milking robots, I performed genome-wide association studies and identified possible positions on the genome that affect susceptibility to and/or recoverability from mastitis.

Currently I am working in John Hickey’s group to develop tools and methods to enhance genetic improvement of dairy cattle in smallholder production systems. Dairy cattle production in low- and middle-income countries is characterised mostly by smallholder production systems that demands novel breeding program designs. We aim to develop novel breeding program designs that combine local adaptation traits of indigenous breeds with high milk yield potential of exotic dairy breeds to benefit the smallholder farmers.
